five things recently

Hello! It's been a while since I sat down and just typed a 'what's going on' type of post. The short answer to that is, not much. Things were a bit hectic for a while but have calmed down quite considerably. Craig and I were planning on moving back to Glasgow this summer, but after a lot of consideration, we decided that we both liked living in Edinburgh too much. It's a beautiful city and we're quite settled here, so it'd be a shame to move and stress when we're quite happy here. To counter still being so far away from friends and family, learning to drive is the next thing on the to do list. It'll be scary, but I can't wait to have my own little car.

Work has been hectic too, hence why the blog has been a little bit bare recently. The staff have been dropping like flies, and soon we'll be down to only four full time members of staff. Any kind of life I currently have right now is about to disappear. I can't wait until we're no longer short staffed, it's too much and I'm really not looking forward to working six day weeks again.

Other than that, things have been all good around here! It's only getting better too now that there's some sun and hot weather around. I've even had my peely-wally legs out recently!

1. Now that it's lighter in the evenings, I've been staring at so many beautiful sunsets, like the one pictured above. I took that on the way to catch the bus after work about two weeks ago.

2. My cat has been super cuddly with me recently, and she was already pretty cuddly. Now she licks my neck and tucks her head under my chin (or on my face) and sleeps for ages. It's so cute.

3. Buying loads of fruit now that the hotter weather is here. I always lose my appetite for big meals in the summer, choosing pasta or rice or even just an apple for dinner. I just stock my fridge up with vegetables and fruit now, it's delicious and light.

4. I have a holiday coming up for a week, starting at the end of April going into May and I am so excited. Craig has the same days off too, so it means we'll be able to spend a good amount of time together as neither of us enjoys working opposite shifts all the time.

5. Switching our heavier duvet for a lighter, thinner one! I hate sleeping without any covers on me, I need to be covered head to toe as I have a constant fear of something grabbing my leg or arm when I'm sleeping.. (I'm 24 this year, people), so a lighter cover really helps with the heat.

why I love a good #selfie

#selfie

Like most people, who have a smart phone with a somewhat decent camera, I have Instagram. With Instagram comes the Selfie. I'm assuming that everyone reading this knows what a selfie is, but for those of you who have been hibernating, it's a self-portrait picture. I'm definitely no stranger to a selfie, I generally post one or two every few weeks. Now I know that people know what my face looks like, so why would I be posting it continuously online? Let me enlighten you why I do it and why it's a glorious thing to do.

1. It makes me feel good about my looks.
This seems like a shallow reason to post your face, but no one out there can say that they don't get a tiny bit happy when people 'like' their selfie. You'd be lying to yourself if you said you didn't care. It's obviously a bit of a boost to your self esteem when people think you look good, and who doesn't want that?

2. It's a major confidence boost.
Having zero confidence as a child and being bullied for the way I looked really stunted any kind of healthy growth I should have had in myself. Now, years later, I actually feel good about the way I look. If thirteen year old me could see, that in just ten years time, all the bullying made no difference, she is just as pretty as she ever was, it would have made all those days dreading going to go school a little bit easier.

3. It's a good excuse to wear make up and do your hair.
I work full time in a phone shop, so my need to wear make up and properly do my hair is minimal. In fact, I don't really do much. I spend most days with my hair tied back and barely wear any make up at all. It's nice to have a reason to want to get all dressed up with make up etc. Quite frankly, if I didn't, it'd make all those boxes of make up pretty useless.

4. It lets other girls compliment each other and actually mean it.
Girls are mean. We are. A lot of time is spent judging other girls, either by their looks or their clothes, and as females, there is a lot of competition out there to look perfect. When you 'like' a selfie online, what you're actually saying is 'hey girl, you look good'. I can't tell you how many times I've felt good about myself when someone a millions times hotter than I am likes my selfie.

Lastly and most importantly...

5. Selfies aren't really for anyone else other than me.
It's kind of in the name isn't it, SELFie. I post a selfie because I think I look good. It's my face and it looks fantastic right now. I post it for me. I'm not posting my face online because I think it's going to benefit someone else, I'm posting it because I want other people to know that I thought I looked good. Simple really.

There you have it, my love for a #selfie.

tl;dr - post a selfie just because you can.

a new fox friend

How amazing is this little bag? I was casually browsing around TK Maxx before starting work and spotted this little beauty hanging casually on a peg! I initially spotted how soft the leather looked and then my eyes went straight to the beautiful little gold fox logo. I had never seen the logo before, and given that I'm not one for designer stuff, I literally bought it purely for the cute fox. I'm clearly so taken with designer brands, aren't I?

I went home to google the brand and found the bag online here! The bag is called The Double Decker and made by Paul Costelloe, which I have never heard of. It's absolutely beautiful though, so I couldn't care who it's made by! It has two main compartments, which even though look pretty small, are actually quite a substantial size. I can fit everything I usually carry around with me without it being too much of a squeeze. Isn't it just beautiful? I suggest you pop by a TK Maxx and try and find out, you definitely won't regret it!
